· Located on a steep cliff on the Golf of Antalya, Antalya is the capital of Turkish tourism due to the weather, the hustle-and-bustle of the city, its long blue-flagged beaches, the beautiful parks, the encompassing forests and mountains and its breathtaking coastline.· Being a cosmopolitan city it has everything to offer for all lifestyles – modern shops, international restaurants, theatre and opera, nightlife and numerous festivals throughout the year, including jazz festival week. Antalya Museum is a must to visit. · Budget airlines offer low-cost flights throughout the year and living in antalya means you quickly arrive home from the airport. · The cobbled winding streets of the Kaleici, the old quarters of the city, is the central nerve of Antalya and numerous Ottoman buildings have largely been restored to open their courtyard doors to display a wealth of treasure within – displays of carpets and kilims, jewellery etc. The port’s marina contains wooden gullets, waterfront restaurants and cafes. · Excursions to ancient cities nearby include Termessos, 35 kms outside of Antalya, where you can explore the remains of this Pisidyan city with its agora, theatre, odion and necropolis. The view from the amphi-theatre is stunning and bizarre at the same time. · Other ancient cities include Perge, 18 kms northeast of Antalya and Aspendos, where operas and ballets are held a few months every year. WHY ALANYA?
· Alanya, 75 miles east of Antalya, with its sandy beaches and historic sites makes it very popular for property buyers. It’s a bustling and popular seaside resort and very modern nowadays.· It’s livier than Antalya by day and by night. · Of interest is the Kale Castle with its 13th century citadel, perched high up on a hill on the peninsula. The Damaltas Cave with its 96% humidity and average temperature of 22 degrees centigrade is situated off the nearby beach. The caves are formed with curious shapes, stalactites and stalagmites. WHY BELEK?
· Simply put, Belek, situated between Antalya and Side,is a golfer’s paradise with internationally renowed golf courses. It’s an ideal golfing destination. Set amidst stunning scenery · and with its mild climate, the golf courses offer everything for the expert and novice alike. · Belek has been planned carefully and has become a sophisticated role model resort with strict building restrictions. · It’s just a 25-minute ride from the airport, 30 kms east of Antalya. · Belek boasts 32 (last count!) 5-star hotels and even a 7-star one. · 17 kms of tranquil beaches. · It’s just a stone’s throw to Aspendos amphi-theatre which hosts operas and ballets during the summer months and which has a seating capacity of 20,000 visitors. WHY KALKAN?
· Set in a background of the Toros mountains on one side and the Mediterranean sea on the other, Kalkan consists of steep, narrow cobbled streets dotted with whitewashed houses, leading up from the bay to the main road. · A 3-hour drive from Antalya’s airport, Kalkan displays magnificent Greek and Kalkan architecture buildings. · Kalkan specialises in water sports, such as scuba-diving and river canoeing. · From the 100 or so restaurants located in Kalkan, try out the ones with rooftop terraces, from where you can enjoy a splendid view of the sea and the town. · By night you can stroll around the harbour and sit in one of the many bars, many of which offer live music. WHY KAS?
· Kas is perched on rugged cliffs with a stunning view of the Mediterranean coastline and of the setting sun.· As in Kalkan, Kas leads down from the main road to the waterfront, winding down narrow, cobbled streets dotted with bougainvilla plants and flowers and whitewashed buildings. · Water sports are very popular in Kas, although there are no long sandy beaches. Dives to off-shore wrecks are high in demand. · Dalaman airport is approx 140 kms driving distance. Antalya is approx a 3-hour ride away. · Kas has managed to retain its fishing village charm despite extensive property development and is extremely popular with Brits. · Kekova Island is a favourite excursion due to its historical civilization ruins lying just under the water’s surface. The sunken city can be admired from glass-bottom boats. · Kas is ideally located for trekking in the Toros mountains and trips to Elmali, almost 4.000 feet high up, which is surrounded by cedar and pine trees, WHY KEMER?
· Kemer, located 45 minutes away from Antalya, (35 kms southwest) has become a super-modern resort with an extensive marina where the millionaires’ yachts can be ogled with envy!· The surrounding area is covered with pine-clad mountains and forests leading down to tranquil bays. · Kemer is ideal as a starting point for excursions to nearby historical sites such as Phaselis and Olimpus. WHY SIDE/MANAVGAT?
· After you pass through the city to Side you reach the beginning of two main streets, littered with cafes and shops offering everything the heart desires (and more!).
· The streets, both popular with tourists in summer and winter alike, lead down to a tiny bay, and continuing the path around to the left you arrive at the Goddess of Fortune and Fate, Fortuna. The amphi-theatre adjacent to it provides a stunning view of the town- the monumental road meandering down to the ancient harbour.· Closeby are the Manavgat waterfalls where you can sit close to the rushing waters and order fresh fish or picnic in one of the nearby picnic areas. ![]() |
