Culture Diversity Historically known as Asia Minor or Anatolia, this vast region reflects a remarkable and fascinating history with settled habitation dating back to the eighth millennium BC. Anatolia has seen virtually every major western civilisation come and go including the Assyrians, Hittities, Phrygians, Urartian, Greeks and Romans.  The culture carries traces from both European and Islam cultures. Turkey is a nation of mixed cultural and historic flavours, a country where  modern skyscrapers stand alongside the minarets of ancient mosques.  Where you can explore the well-preserved Greco-Roman cities, the Byzantine churches and the ancient ruins of the various civilizations which dwelt in this massive geographic landmass. Museums are abound throughout Turkey. The mix of cultural influences and traditions is reflected in the diversity of the Turkish arts, the language and handicrafts.  In everday life.  As you walk along the streets you pass women dressed as in Europe alongside women wearing more religious clothing. The Turkish language uses many English, French, Italian, Persian and Arabic rooted words. Many Turks today have roots from The Balkans, The Middle East and from the Caucasus. The music varies from the the mystical flute of the whirling dervishes, to the vibrant rhythm of the bellydance to the latest Turkish techno-pop!
